Topic: DOING GOOD WORKS
Text: Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:1, 14
Memory Verse: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)
It is often said that when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. We are designed for eternal purpose. Tragically, many are clueless and careless about their true identity. This has led many to pursue a shadow of themselves. We are God’s best artistic work (workmanship). We are created for his praise. Created in advance for His glory. Believers are not accidental and existing by coincidence, hence Ephesians 2:8-10 captures the purpose of our salvation and how we should respond to redemptive grace of God.
Here we see the connection between redemptive grace and our preparation for every good works – the essence of our creation. We were saved by Grace for good works (Eph. 2:8,10). Paul stated clearly in the preceding verse (vs. 5) that, “…by grace you have been saved – so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace” (Eph. 2:5-7). God has prepared, purposed and created us for good works (agents of light and shinning lights). It is both our preparation and ordination.
God wants us to pursue this with every zeal inside of us (Titus 2:14) as demonstrated by Christ Jesus in doing good, healing all who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38). Good works make up our destiny in Christ, helping men and yielding abundant fruits that in turn result in men glorying our father in Heaven (Matt. 5:16).
Our good works is reflected in genuine love for others, selfless service to others (Titus 3:14). Doing good works is our job description as believers in Christ and an adequate way to appreciate God’s redemptive grace. God expects those who have received God’s redemptive grace to be involved in the ministry of reconciliation. Hence, the grace of God changes you as you carry out your stewardship role.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, may my life be a sweet savour of good works unto you, spurring the hearts of many to acknowledge your lordship, Amen.
