TOPIC: “FORGIVENESS IS NOT WEAKNESS”
TEXT: Colossians 3:13
MEMORY VERSE: “Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another… even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do” Col. 3:13.
One of the common reasons people struggle with forgiveness is the belief that forgiving someone makes them weak or vulnerable. In human reasoning, holding on to hurt can feel like strength, while releasing it may seem like losing control.
However, Scripture presents a different perspective.
In Colossians 3:13, believers are instructed to forgive one another, with the standard being the forgiveness received through Christ. This shows that forgiveness is not a suggestion, but a command rooted in divine strength.
Forgiveness requires inner strength, not weakness. It takes strength to release what the flesh wants to hold onto. It takes strength to let go of the desire to justify pain through resentment. It takes strength to remain aligned with God’s nature when emotions suggest otherwise.
Christ’s forgiveness was not an act of weakness; it was the highest expression of divine strength and love. He had the power to respond differently, yet He chose the path of forgiveness in alignment with the Father’s will.
In the same way, when a believer forgives, it is not a loss of control but a demonstration of spiritual maturity and alignment with God.
True strength is seen in the ability to obey God above personal emotion.
Application
Re-evaluate your understanding of forgiveness today. Have you seen it as weakness? Ask God to help you see it as strength and give you the grace to act accordingly.
PRAYER: Father, I receive the grace to walk in true spiritual strength. Help me to forgive as Christ forgave, not out of weakness, but out of obedience and alignment with You. Strengthen my heart to let go of every form of resentment, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
