Topic: “OUTCOMES OF INTIMACY IN THE CHURCH – UNITY“
Text: Psalm 133
Memory Verse: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29
Unity refers to the state of being one or harmony, particularly among believers in Christ. It is not about sameness or uniformity, but rather a deep spiritual connection and cooperation reflecting the relationship between God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Unity provides serenity. Calmness, comfort, and goodness are benefits of unity. As the psalmist said, “Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” Paul told the Thessalonians, “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11.
After Jesus prayed for His apostles, He prayed for all believers and that includes you and me. He prayed that we “all may be one” – John 17:20-23. He also appealed to the Corinthians “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that they be perfectly united in mind and thought.” 1 Corinthians 1:10.
Success is inevitable where unity exists, hence God used the Babylonians to destroy Judah and its capital City, Jerusalem because of their disobedience. Later, Ezra led the rebuilding of the Temple and the restoration of the Law of Moses. Years later, Nehemiah was sent to Judah to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem a very big task. The people were united we read in Nehemiah 4:6.
As part of the outcomes of intimacy in the Church, God can do great and mighty things amid His people when we are united.
PRAYER: Dear Father, much division exists in the world, we pray that your Church will serve as an example of the unity in every environment we enter, seeking to understand others and keeping our focus on Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
