Topic: “INTIMACY AND SPIRITUAL WARFARE IN THE CHURCH- SEXUAL IMMORALITY“
Text: 1 Corinthians 5: 1-5
Memory Verse: “It is actually reported that there is a case of sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not found even among pagans; for a man is living with his father’s wife.”1 Corinthians 5:1
The problem in the church at Corinth was a case of incest which the Bible speaks about in Leviticus 18. A man had caused a scandal in the church by marrying his stepmother and the church did not do anything about it. Even pagans abhor such practice. This was a spiritual warfare for the church. When the church failed in her duty, Apostle Paul stepped in to assert his authority to guide them in the matter of discipline. He pointed out what they should do, leaving the church to carry out his instruction. Paul’s instruction is in verse 5 of our text.
Unfortunately, today’s church is not free from the sin of immorality. Our young ones are involved in fornication, the elders in adultery. Sadly enough, apart from these happening outside the church, some people have the boldness to commit the sin within the church. Where is the intimacy with God? God gave us the gift of sex, but he wants us to enjoy it within the institution of marriage, it is the height of intimacy in a relationship between a man and a woman. God created it for procreation and for enjoyment within marriage. God says, “You shall not commit adultery”- Exodus 20:14; it is sinful and God hates it. Anyone indulging himself or herself in adultery or fornication should repent of this sin and ask God for forgiveness. We cannot continue in sin and expect God’s grace to abound. Romans 6:1. God forbid! God is holy and He expects those who are called by His name to be holy.
Is anyone involved in fornication or adultery? Do not let it affect your future here on earth or ruin your marriage. It is a tool that Satan uses to destroy destiny and God’s purpose in the life of an individual. Read Judges 16:20-21.
PRAYER: My Lord and God, have mercy on me because I am a victim of sexual immorality. Forgive me my sin, I want to make heaven; please have mercy me on in Christ’s precious name, Amen.
