AUGUST 2: The Trinity: A Biblical example of Christian Unity

Christianity is Trinitarian, not polytheistic. Our text today reveals the concept of the Trinity or the eternal relationship between God the father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Hebrew word used for God in Genesis 1:1 is Elohim. The suffix “im” in Eloh-im is plural in Hebrew, thus, “Elohim means more than two.” This is where the concept of the Trinity is derived; one God manifested in three Divine Persons of the Godhead.

In terms of function of the Godhead or Trinity, the father created in the Old Testament, the Son did the work of redemption in the New Testament, while the Holy Spirit does the work of sanctification and empowerment of the church in the church age. Therefore, right from eternity, there has been unity of purpose and operation of the Trinity without any clash of power or interest. This is and should be the example of Christian unity.

In the Godhead, we see perfect and infinite unity. What exists in the Godhead is what God desires to see in His church. If every believer in the church today can imbibe the wisdom and spirit of the Trinity and function in their respective offices, callings, giftings, ministries and purpose, the church undoubtedly will be more united than ever. However, it is unfortunate witnessing varieties of divisions in the body of Christ because of the pursuit of power and position. It is my prayer that God will cause the understanding and wisdom that exists in the Godhead to permeate the church today in Jesus name, amen.

PRAYER: pray that the wisdom and understanding that exists in the Godhead will manifest in the church today.
