Topic: The Power of Unity (Pt. 1)
Text: Acts 2:1-5
Memory Verse: Acts 2:1 – “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place”.
One of the greatest factors that led to the great manifestation of God in the apostolic age was unity. All through the pages of the book of Acts of the Apostles, Luke constantly mentioned unity as one of the key factors that pulled down the hand of God for great miracles in the early church. In Acts 1:14, the Apostles “Continued with one accord in prayer and supplication….” The word “continued” suggests that while Christ was with them, they were united in purpose and mission.
After His death and resurrection, they ALL CONTINUED with one accord. In chapter two, before the descent of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, they were united with one accord (Acts 2:1). After the descent of the Holy Spirit in the same chapter, “they continued daily with one accord in the temple and breaking of bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart” (Acts 2:46). In chapter 4:24, “They lifted up their voice to God with one accord…” In chapter 5:12, “And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.” We can go on and on talking about the unity of the apostles. In fact, the predominant language of Luke in describing the activities of the church is “One accord.”
If you read in between the lines in the book of Acts, you will notice that every mighty manifestation of God among the Apostles was always preceded by their united activities, thus, suggesting that the unity of the church has the power to draw down the hand of God for mighty deeds on earth. Therefore, let us give unity a chance in the church.
PRAYER: LORD, baptize your church with unity in Jesus name, Amen.
