Topic: “BORN TO DIE“
Text: John 1:29-34; Mark 10:45
Memory Verse: “Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Once upon a time, there was a debate on which is more important between Christmas and Easter. I would not know which one you will speak for if you were there, but the truth remains that Christmas and Easter cannot be separated. If the baby in the cradle escaped death, He would have lived a wasted life and if a man will grow old enough to go to the cross, then he must be born first. So, the womb and tomb were equally important.
Jesus was born to die, and He died so that we can be born again. The Incarnation had the Cross in view. Therefore, while He taught and healed, His ultimate mission was to die for the sin of the world. John the Baptist recognized this when he called Him “the Lamb of God.” Every lamb offered under the Old Covenant pointed to the final sacrifice, the sinless Son who would give His life for the salvation of the world.
Jesus could have been an earthly celebrity, people wanted Him to be king, mammoth crowd thronged Him for feeding and healing, but He remained focused on the ultimate mission. Jesus was born to die. So, also, are you born again to die to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life. Therefore, how focused are you on the ultimate purpose of God for your life?
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank You for coming with the cross in view. Thank You for willingly laying down Your life so I could live. Help me to never lose sight of the cost of my redemption and to live in gratitude for Your sacrifice, Amen.
