FEBRUARY 10: “Building Intimacy in Prayer: Elizabeth’s Model”

FEBRUARY 10, 2025

Topic: “Building Intimacy in Prayer: Elizabeth’s Model”

Text: Luke 1: 5-23

Memory Verse: Luke 1:13 “For your petition has been heard…”

Zacharias and Elizabeth were priests of the Lord. The bible says they were righteous and committed to God but were barren and past childbearing years. Yet as we will see, God remembered their prayer in secret and answered it openly in the fullness of time. The story of Elizabeth is one of humility, faith, and divine favour. Elizabeth, an elder relative of Mary, but yet very calm and supportive of her husband even in the face of the challenges of not having children.

The text today, showed us that the family is a praying family because when the angel appeared to Zacharia, he said “For your petition has been heard…” That means prior to this time they have been praying in the secret with his wife. The lesson we can learn from Elizabeth, an older woman who had been barren and became the mother of John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ is never to stop praying.

Her story encourages us to look beyond our limitations and trust in God’s plan for our lives. Secondly, she prayerfully played her role in the scheme of things in God’s agenda. A supportive, praying wife and mother. We also see that Elizabeth was uniquely equipped to be a supportive shoulder for Mary. As you step out today, expect God’s visitation upon your life, and like Elizabeth, remember to continue to be faithful in the face of patient waiting.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, you are a promise keeper, help us never to lose hope, help us to never give up while we are waiting for your divine blessing in our lives. Help us to keep standing strong in the place of our secret prayers in Jesus’ name, Amen.
