Topic: BE SENSITIVE TO GOD’S PRESENCE
Text: Genesis 28: 10 – 17
Memory Verse: “And Jacob awaked out of his sleep; and he said, surely the Lord is in this place, and I knew it not” Genesis 28:16
Yes, there is power and blessings that are made available to us when the Lord is present with us but many are ignorant of His presence, resulting in the power not being released to help in time of need.
Jacob in our passage for today slept, ignorant of the presence of God but woke up after his dream during which the Lord spoke to him and he declared, ‘surely the Lord is in the place; and I knew it not.’
After realizing the presence of the Lord, he quickly built an altar and made his expectations known to God, vowing to worship the Lord if He indeed blesses him now that he had returned to his Father’s house. God surely was with him throughout his
sojourn with his Uncle Laban. In addition, the Lord blessed him greatly.
Had Jacob not come to the realization that God was with him, he may not have been so blessed.
We should learn a lesson from this experience and be sensitive to the presence of the Lord and use it as an opportunity to make our desires known to God just like Jacob did when he realized that God was present there.
Thank God, today we are in a better state because we are assured of God’s presence since Jesus said “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them” Matthew 18:20. Therefore, we are sure that the Lord is present with us when two of us come together in His name.
Let us be conscious that just as God was with Jacob at Bethel, the same way Jesus is with us in our room when two of us come together in His name. In addition, the power of God is present with us just like with Jacob, only let us be bold and ask expecting to receive.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for being with us always. I pray that the knowledge that you are with us will fill us to overflowing.
