Topic: “ALIGNMENT REQUIRES INTENTIONALITY“
Text: Genesis 6:5-13.
Memory Verse: “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of His time, and he walked faithfully with God” – Genesis 6:9b.
God created all mankind with a free will and a right to choice. We could even choose not to have Him over our lives. This is a reflection of our having been created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27; 2:16-17; Deut 30:19; Josh 24:15)
Noah lived in a perverse generation described as being increasingly wicked. Every inclination of the thought of the human heart in that generation was only evil all the time. This greatly troubled the heart of God such that He regretted having made mankind on the earth.
In a world like that, it must have been so difficult for anyone to be different. The incentives to live wickedly must have been so overwhelming; in fact, it must have been very perilous for anyone to go against the order of the day. Certainly, anyone with such odd posture and lifestyle like Noah, must have been very unpopular and practically ostracized.
For Noah to have been righteous and blameless in a generation like that, he must have intentionally made up his mind to stand out for God, damning the consequences. A man like that must have been hated, mocked, insulted, alienated, persecuted and even condemned to death. Noah’s knowledge of and love for God must have been so profound as to draw all the natural and environmental influences and allurement in him towards the prevailing culture. This is why Noah’s alignment with God is a major reference point for us in these meditations.
To answer to God’s call for alignment this year, you have to resolve in your heart to stand with Him against all that seek to pull you to the world, Satan and to self. See Genesis 3:1-6; Neh 6:2-4; Dan 1:8; Luke 4:1-13; 2 Cor 6:14-18; James 4:7.
PRAYER: Lord, I have made up my mind for you. Strengthen my resolve and help me to stay aligned with you against all odds, in Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
