JANUARY 11: HIS P R E S E N C E – T H E P R O M IS E O F ENLIGHTENMENT

This New Year offers you another opportunity to get closer to God and know Him better. This is why you need the presence of God all the time. You cannot know God except as He reveals Himself to  you. One medium we have by which we can come to the knowledge of God is His word;  and He alone can open your mind to understand His word.

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection in that upper room in Jerusalem, He opened their minds to understand the scriptures and what was written concerning Him. This enlightenment was necessary to position them to be effective witnesses of these things because without it, how could they really bear witness to what the scriptures say concerning Jesus.

Today, we have the Holy Spirit to give us this illumination when we read the Bible. The presence of Jesus with the disciples on that day afforded them the opportunity of this enlightenment. In the same vein, the Holy Spirit being present in us today helps to enlighten our minds concerning what is written in the scriptures about Jesus and about God; to make us know Him well and be able to effectively present Him to our world.

As you meditate on these lines, you must crave for a more active manifestation of the Holy Spirit in your life and ask Him to keep enlightening your mind about God.

Remember, I Cor. 2:14 says that the natural person cannot understand the things of the Spirit because they are known only by the Spirit; you therefore need the ministry of the Holy Spirit to help you understand the word of God which came to us by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit – 2 Peter 1:21.

Prayer: Spirit of the living God, remove every veil on my mind and give me a fresh understanding of God’s
