Topic: “FACE TO FACE WITH GOD”
Text: Exodus 33:7-11
Memory Verse: “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one spoke to a friend.” Exo 33:11a
Another wonderful biblical example of intimacy with God is that of Moses. While friendship with God was out of the reach of other Hebrews, it was a great privilege for Moses whom God called and brought close to Himself. Moses was brought so close to God that our text says God spoke to him face to face just as friends do. Please note that this expression is not to be taken literally, God does not have a physical face as men do. It simply describes how closely Moses experienced God. Moses had this privilege as a matter of divine favour. It was not a result of His being perfect, being more gifted, or more powerful than other Hebrews, it was the wisdom and prerogative of God who chose Him.
Suffice to say that Moses’ response in relying wholeheartedly on God’s wisdom and direction helped the intimate relationship that He had with God. Their interaction was close and personal; even Joshua, Moses’ assistant was not admitted into the inner chamber where Moses interacted with God. He could get only as close as was allowed by God while the rest of the people watched and worshipped the Lord from afar. Moses would come out thereafter to speak to the people and tell them what God instructed or demanded of them.
Beloved child of God, do you know that though friendship with God was out of the reach for the rest of Israel during the time of Moses, it is not out of reach for you today? Jesus has made all the difference. He is the full representation of God, and the radiance of His glory. By his sacrificial death, the door to an intimate relationship with God has been opened to all who would come to Him.
He called His disciples, and by extension all His followers, His friends (John 15:15). He has called you to be His friend and is happy and willing to make known to you all that He has received from God. He is calling for an intimate relationship with you so come close, position yourself like Moses by relying wholeheartedly on His wisdom and direction, and enjoy it. Train your heart to hear Him, your spirit to engage with His Spirit, and your mouth to speak with Him.
PRAYER: Pray as the Spirit leads you on this matter of intimacy looking at Moses’ example.
