JANUARY 20: THE MANIFESTATION OF GOD’S PRESENCE: ENABLES ALIFE OF PURITY

JANUARY 20, 2024

Topic: THE MANIFESTATION OF GOD’S PRESENCE: ENABLES A LIFE OF PURITY

Text: Genesis 17: 1-12

Memory Verse: Genesis 17:1- “Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless”.

The Lord God is a Holy God, who requires that His children also live in holiness. Those who will be the custodians of God’s presence cannot live a contaminated life. In our text today, after thirteen years of silence, Abraham fathered a son called Ishmael through Hagar the slave of Sarah. Abraham had deviated from the path of righteousness.

As we enter chapter 17, the Lord God, had to give Abraham a call to repent and return to a life of righteousness, “I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless.

In the text for today, there were two instructions; the first was to “walk before the Lord.” What does this mean? It is a call to come into communion with God. Abraham’s communion with God was broken and he needed to reconnect with God. Today, the presence of God cannot be experienced if a person is not in communion with God. The second instruction is “be blameless.” This means we should reflect His character, we become pure by inheriting God’s purity, His holiness and righteousness. As we step out today, we have to make up our minds to continue to be the custodians of God’s presence, we have to walk and be blameless.

Prayer: Our Father, we thank you for always pointing attention to those things that will help us to become more like you. We do ask that you uphold us and bless us in all our ways.
