Topic: HIS PRESENCE – ASHIELD
Text: Genesis 15:1-6
Memory Verse: “…Do not be afraid Abram, I am a shield to
you; your very great reward” – Genesis 15:1
Thinking about the promise of God’s presence is exciting because of the many great things it comes with. When we have God’s presence, we enjoy access to all that He represents and all that is in Him. Speaking to Abram, God exhorted him not to be afraid
because no harm would come to him because the presence of God with him was enough a covering for him.
He may have been afraid that the kings he had just defeated would plan a fight back, but God promised to defeat them. That is what the shield means; it provides defense, covering and protection against the onslaught of the enemy. God also promised to be Abram’s very great reward. These were good reasons for Abram to have his mind at rest and to focus on God.
When you feel any fear within you for what lies ahead of you, remember that God will stay with you through every seemingly threatening situation or forces, and remember that His presence with you brings the assurance of great blessings. Like Abram, you have no reason to be afraid no matter what the New Year holds or what people may be saying around you–the Lord is a rock and a fortress, solid and formidable enough to cover you.
Prayer: Lord, you are my shield; your presence is an assurance of protection and defense for me. In you, I make my boast and rest my mind, Amen.
