Topic: “MADE TO BE INTIMATE WITH GOD”
Text: Genesis 1:26-30
Memory Verse: “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them”.
Intimacy is defined as being in a close relationship, familiarity or friendship with someone. It speaks of having something in common which holds the two together and guarantees their ability to come close to each other. Our text for today reveals that God made mankind in His image and likeness, i.e. having true righteousness and holiness like Himself. He made us to share in His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). This is a strong basis for intimacy, for when God looked at mankind, He saw a reflection of Himself and was satisfied (Genesis 1:31). This implies that we were made to enjoy intimacy with God from the very beginning.
The above is further buttressed by Genesis 3:8 which suggests that God was used to sharing time together with Adam and Eve (fellowship) in the garden of Eden where He placed them, for they already knew the sound of His voice (intimacy), and He had come to them as at other times, but they hid from Him.
God longs to be with us always, to have fellowship with us, and to share with us everything He represents and has. Intimacy with Him is our original privilege and He wants us to guard it jealously and make the most of it.
Would you thank God on this first day of a new year for being reminded of His love for you, the investment of His nature made in you and His ever longing to have you close to Himself? Would you also tell Him how much you love Him and desire to be intimate with Him?
PRAYER: Ask God to help you deal with everything that distracts you and interferes with your intimacy with Him.
