TOPIC: “THINKING YOU ARE TOO SMART TO BE CORRECTED – 4”
TEXT: Obadiah 2-4, Psalm 138:6

The story of King Rehoboam has lots of lessons on how not to be pompous. When a man cannot be advised, he cannot be helped and cannot be saved, even if he is dying.
Story Insight #5: leadership comes with privilege, but it is only sustained by making good choices.
Story Insight #6: not listening to wise counsels can be suicidal and have negative irreversible consequences.
King Rehoboam’s choice and pompous nature removed the carpet from under him. He lost the throne. The power to lead was taken from him by the people, even though by divine design, he was born into the ruling house. He was meant to rule after his father – King Solomon. However, he could hardly sustain the dynasty of kingship because of his bad decisions which came with unexpected consequences. He was shocked by the resistance of the people.
Lesson 4: The wise leader knows that followers have limits to which they can be pushed. Therefore, the wise leads humbly, gently and not forcefully.
If one is privileged to lead, one should lead wisely and humbly knowing that it is a privilege. It is neither a right nor an entitlement. If someone was corrected or counselled at any point in time, such counsel should be received in good faith and proper adjustments should be made. Rejecting wise and godly counsel and rejecting the privilege come at a huge price. When such counsel are rejected, the privileges of having them are lost at same time.
PRAYER: Father, help me not to take the good people you surrounded me with for granted. I receive the grace to submit to wise counsels and to get the needed help in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen
