Topic: DOING GOOD TO ALL – Giving Sacrificially
Text: Proverbs 19:17
Memory Verse: Proverbs 19:17 (NKJV): “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given.“
As believers in Christ Jesus, we are called to be generous and to give sacrificially to those in need. Jesus himself gave us the ultimate example of sacrificial giving when he left His throne in glory and laid down his life on the cross for us.
In Mark 12:41-44, Jesus observed a poor widow giving all she had, two small copper coins, into the temple treasury. Jesus praised her, saying that she had given more than all the others because she had given everything she had; while others had given only out of their abundance.
This story teaches us that it is not the amount of our giving that matters to God, but the heart behind it. God desires that we give sacrificially, with a heart of love and compassion for others. It also teaches us that we can give even from the little we have! It is acceptable if given from a willing and cheerful heart.
In Nigeria, there are many opportunities to give sacrificially to those in need. We can give our time, talents, and resources to help those who are less fortunate. We can support ministries and organizations that serve the poor and needy, and we can give to our Churches to support their outreach efforts.
When we give sacrificially, we are showing God’s love to others and laying up treasures in heaven. We are also fulfilling the commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your sacrificial love for us. Help us to give sacrificially to those in need, just as you have given sacrificially to us. Give us hearts of compassion and generosity and help us to always seek ways to serve others. May our giving bring glory to your name and be a blessing to those who receive it. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
