June 3: THE SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY OF JESUS

When Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was on earth; He showed by His life, how to live this Christian life for thirty-three and a half years thereby leaving us an example to follow. One of the things He modeled for us was His spiritual sensitivity to what the Father wanted Him to do at any given time.

This is obvious in our text today. Jesus was going to Judea but had to go through Samaria. After He had trekked kilometers, He came to Samaria, tired and exhausted. He sat beside the well of Jacob and a Samaritan woman came to fetch water. Jesus got into conversation with this woman by requesting her to give Him a drink. This conversation began to build up and it eventually led to the conversion of the woman. Immediately she got converted, she ran to the city of Samaria to share her experience with Jesus, to the people. The Bible says many Samaritans believed because of the woman’s testimony (John 4:39).

What a striking lesson the life of Jesus taught us here. The conversation that started with a simple request led to the Salvation of many Samaritans. What a spiritually sensitive Saviour and Master we have. It is therefore important for us as disciples to pick and use this striking attribute, most especially in preaching the gospel to the lost. We must be spiritually sensitive enough to ask the Holy Spirit to help us use those seemingly ordinary, casual talks to witness to people. Sadly today, several believers waste precious opportunities they have to engage people with the gospel. It is easier to argue over politics, sport and every other issue for hours without mentioning Jesus to our perishing friends. Jesus never wasted any of such opportunities. May we receive Grace to follow His example.
