Topic: “BENEFITS OF CHRIST’S RESURRECTION POWER – CITIZENSHIP IN HEAVEN”
Text: Ephesians 2:11-19
Memory Verse: “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God” Ephes 2:18-19.
One of the most beautiful experiences a believer has is the knowledge that he belongs to the family of God and is a citizen of the Kingdom of God. The walls of hostility that hitherto separated man from God and even man from man were broken by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
When Jesus hung on the cross, one manifestation of such walls being broken was that the Veil that separated the Holy of Holies in the Temple was torn from top to bottom (Matt 27:51), showing that everyone now had access to the presence of God without the necessity of going through a designated Priest assigned for such a role daily.
Secondly, the enmity that stood between nations was also broken by the power of Christ’s resurrection:
“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Gal 3:26-28 (NKJV)
God changed our citizenship from being foreigners and strangers to being fellow citizens of the Kingdom in order that we may show forth His light to all:
“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Saviour. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.” Phil 3:20-21 (NLT)
Beloved, our citizenship is of heaven, and no other citizenship compares with it. Let us therefore walk with God more closely, so that we can continue to experience the power of Christ’s resurrection in its fulness both now and forever.
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for making me one of the citizens of your Kingdom. May my walk with you consistently bring glory to the Kingdom, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
