Topic: SENSITIVITY TO GOD’S PURPOSE
Text: Luke 4:16-21
Memory Verse: Luke 4:18-19 – “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor”.
The God we serve is a God of purpose. He created all things, including Man to serve a particular purpose in His heart. The Bible says, “For from him and through him and to him are all things (Romans 11:36)”. However, in order for Man to discover God’s purpose for his life, such must be consistent with the word of God and be spiritually sensitive.
In our text today, Jesus entered the synagogue as His custom was and was given the scroll to read. He opened it to the prophecy that concerns His mission and mandate on earth. Jesus discovered His life mission from those verses of the Scriptures because he was sensitive spiritually. For Jesus, He knew that He had been commissioned by the Holy Spirit to preach the good news to the poor, to heal the broken hearted, to release the captives and to announce the accepted year of the Lord to the oppressed. What an understanding of a life mission! This is a big challenge to us as believers. Our Lord Jesus Christ got His purpose and mission right from the beginning, because He was sensitive to the Spirit of God as He encountered the Scriptures. That’s exactly what the Word of God does for us. The Word of God awakens our spiritual consciousness to the reason God has created us. Someone once said, “the scriptures contain the picture of your future.” This is a very valid statement.
Beloved, what is your level of commitment to God’s word? The more sensitive you are to the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures, the more you will fulfill your mandate on earth. This is God’s will for us that we should come to terms with His purpose for our lives and fulfill it. May the Lord send us Grace in Jesus name.
