Topic: “The Call to Intimacy”
Text: James 4: 1-10
Memory Verse: “Come near to God and He will come near to you.” – James 4:8.
God’s greatest desire is for a deep and meaningful relationship with His children. He invites us to draw close, not out of obligation, but from a heart of love. From our text for today, Apostle James took the time to raise some issues with our walk with the Lord. He pointed out that the fights and quarrels we experience among us are because of our evil desires (verses 1-2). He emphasizes the fact that our wrong motives when we pray have become a barrier to our receiving from the Lord (verses 2-3). He buttresses the fact that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God. “And that the Lord opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (verse 4-6).
In verse 8, the writer gives a call to us, and that call is for us to draw near to God. When we respond to this call positively, God will in turn draw near to us. Praise and worship are powerful ways to answer His call. Through them, we open our hearts, laying aside distractions to focus solely on Him. As we praise and worship Him, our hearts are constantly purified, and our loyalty remains firmly to Christ.
In praise, we exalt His greatness, recounting His mighty works and expressing our gratitude. In worship, we bow in surrender, acknowledging His sovereignty and inviting Him to dwell in our lives. This call to intimacy is not one-sided; as we come near to God in praise and worship, He promises to come near to us.
Today, take a step closer to God. Spend a few quiet moments praising Him for who He is and thanking Him for His blessings. Then, enter into worship, surrendering your heart fully to Him.
PRAYER: Father, thank You for calling me into a closer relationship with You. Teach me to draw near through praise and worship. Help me to seek You daily and find joy in Your presence, Amen.
