TOPIC: “UNDERSTANDING AND WALKING IN GOD’S PURPOSE”
TEXT: Galatians 1:15-17
MEMORY VERSE: “But when it pleased God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by His grace” – Gal. 1:26.
Our devotional text for today reminds us that our lives, salvation and calling are rooted in God’s sovereign choice and gracious initiative. Writing to the Galatian church to address the issue of Judaizers who taught that Gentile converts needed to follow the Jewish law and customs to be fully accepted as Christians, Paul emphasized the gospel of grace, using himself as an example of one chosen by grace according to God’s purpose, hence, “But when it pleased God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by His grace”.
It is important to highlight the fact that Apostle Paul, prior to his call was completely clueless about God’s purpose for his life. As a result, he persecuted the church that he was ordained from birth to be part of. This is usually the case when people fail to understand God’s purpose for their lives. When a person loses touch with God’s sovereign purpose for their lives, they meander through life’s journey in the wrong direction. When a person’s life is without purpose, all their actions will be motivated by self and the desire to satisfy their personal inclinations rather than following God’s sovereign purpose ordained right from the womb.
As we reflect on Paul’s words in Galatians 1:15-17, we are reminded of the profound truth that our lives are shaped by God’s sovereign plan and purpose, and the earlier we understand and follow it, the better and greater our impact on earth.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I need your enabling grace to be able to discover as well as follow your Divine purpose for my life in Jesus’ name, Amen.
