MARCH 4: OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WILL 2

Yesterday, we considered obedience in alignment with walking with God and it is important that we consider the reward and consequences of obedience in our walk with God. Suffice to say that we must think through our decisions before we take action and ensure that it is in consonance with God’s will.

The reward of obedience is enormous; our text says anyone who is obedient will get the best from God. The scriptures in 2Corinthians 10:6 emphasized the need for complete obedience which is what gives us victory over every challenge, so that when our obedience is complete, then we will be able to punish every disobedience. This gives us the authority to challenge any situation working against God’s will in our lives. When you walk in obedience, God establishes your authority in Him. The word of God in your mouth carries power and authority. God would have established the reign of Saul forever, but for his incomplete obedience, he forfeited an everlasting blessing.

The second verse of our text for today emphasized the major consequence of disobedience which is death. God said if they refuse and rebel, they will be eaten by the sword. Anywhere the sword is mentioned, it signifies death. It could be both spiritual and physical like it happened to Adam and Eve when they disobeyed by eating the forbidden fruit. Prior to this time, they enjoyed unhindered fellowship with God which the two parties looked out for, until disobedience brought a separation that Jesus came to restore. Death came through the disobedience of the first Adam while life and salvation came through the obedience of the second Adam.

Flee from anything that may cost you eternal separation through disobedience and make a commitment to a lifetime of obedience as Jesus lived to show us a perfect example.

PRAYER: Father, help me to live a life of obedience to your word so that I can eat the good of the land in Jesus’ name, Amen.
