TOPIC: “THE CONSEQUENCES OF COMPROMISE”
TEXT: James 1:13-18
MEMORY VERSE: “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good” – Romans 12:9
Compromise is the expedient acceptance of standards that are lower than desirable. Compromises take place as a result of wanting a quick fix and most often, it defies the right ways of doing things. It can happen as a result of the association one keeps as this fuels one’s desires, which can lead to enticement, then sin and it ultimately gives birth to death, first spiritually and sometimes, physical death, vs 14-15 of our text.
As believers, when there is a compromise of God’s standards, it has consequences which sometimes, are irredeemable. When Adam and Eve, compromised God’s instruction, they lost the beautiful relationship they had with God and also, the Garden of Eden. Abram, yielding to Sarai’s pressure of a child, gave birth to a bond child that, to this day, is still a thorn in the life of the promised child. When we compromise on God’s instructions, it disrupts our relationship with Him. It robs us of our integrity.
Compromise is a gradual thief of our godly values and character. It is usually subtle initially and ends up leading to public disgrace and if care is not taken, eternal damnation (Achan). It puts one in bondage of sin as there will always be the urge to cover up and then, one goes from one lie to the other which can lead to generational destruction as seen in the life of David when he had an affair with Bathsheba, this led to the murder of her husband. Compromise erodes peace in the life of a believer.
PRAYER: Father, help me to reject all kinds of evil in Jesus’ name, Amen.
