Text: 2 TIMOTHY 4:7

Memory Verse: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

You cannot engage in a fight without first considering your strength vis-a-vis the strength of your opponent. Jesus Christ gave a parable in Luke 15:31-32 on the need for a king who is about to go to war with another king to consider if he has the wherewithal to defeat him and if he is not able, based on the strength of his army, he sends a delegation while the other is still a long way off and asks for peace terms.

In spiritual warfare, we need to know that Christ has supplied all it takes to win the battle. Yet, there is the need for adequate preparation of our mind to win the battle against the enemy of our soul. Apostle Paul said he had fought the good fight. He qualified his fight as good not a useless and baseless battle that has no eternal value. When it comes to spiritual warfare, we don’t negotiate with the devil. The devil is afraid of those who know their position in Christ, occupy it, and engage the devil; from the stand point of the victory that Jesus wrought on the cross of Calvary and at resurrection.

It is disheartening that many Christians do not know what they have in Christ so they ‘chicken out’ when they hear about satanic activities. Some know their position in Christ strictly based on head knowledge; but their hearts and minds are yet to resonate with the Truth. Some Christians are always on the defensive, they never launch an attack on the devil. Daniel said concerning those who know their God (Daniel 11:32) that they shall “be strong and do exploits”. They are ready to face the devil and his agents and beat them hands down. It takes a good fight to finish the race and to keep the faith. These things don’t come easy. Apostle Paul wrestled with so many things and was severely persecuted. In spite of all this, he kept the faith and finished his race strong. If you are a Christian be ready to wage war against your flesh, the devil and the world so that you can say at the end of your life on earth you have fought the good fight. You need strength to fight, hence you must ask God daily, for new strength to fight and defeat every challenge that comes your way.
