Topic: “ A THOUGHTFUL LOVE”
Text: Matthew 15:32-38
Memory Verse: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11.
Jesus epitomises the love of God. He showed how thoughtful and providential God’s love is. In the scriptural account for today, Jesus was ‘moved with compassion’ because of his love for the people who had been with him, listening to God’s word for three days and he did not want them to go back hungry. He expressed his concern to the disciples to show how much he cared. God is always thinking about us. He is our very Present Help in the time of need or trouble. (Psalms 46:1).
The term ‘standby’ is often used to describe something or someone that is meant to provide a service or supply something as and when needed or when activated. It means a Ready Assistance or Ready Supply. God is more than a Ready Assistance or Ready Supplier of any needed help, because even when the one who needs help has not realized it or activated it, HE IS THERE! Hebrews 13:5b-6 states “…God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So, we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
His love for us is embodied in the gift of His presence. We must cultivate intimacy with Him to enjoy this fellowship in his presence. 1 John 1:5-7 states, “…God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
Sin is a major hindrance to our enjoying the Standby help from God. It blocks the flow of the needed assistance. We must embrace holy living to enjoy the continuous flow of the providential help that is available to us in Christ.
PRAYER: Father Lord, help me to live holy so that I can enjoy your continuous supply of help in Jesus’ name, Amen.
