Topic: “MAXIMIZE YOUR STRENGTH”
Text: Joshua 13: 1, Ephesians 5:15-17
Memory Verse: Making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:16 NIV)
Joshua did great exploits for the Lord. He settled the children of Israel in the Promised Land, however God said this concerning him in his old age ‘You are now very old and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over’. No matter how zealous Joshua was, there was no more physical strength to fight and take over territories. This implies that as much as spiritual strength is required to win the Lord’s battle the importance of physical strength cannot be overemphasized to actualize a vision.
It is important that we maximize every opportunity God gives us to serve His purpose before the night season of our life comes, when the body has become weak. That is why there is a great battle over the lives of the youth because of their strength and vigour. Both the devil and God have interest in the youth because they will go farther than the older people in terms of longevity and capacity. If God told Joshua this while he was much younger, he would have immediately sprung into action. God did not expect him to take any major action because He himself confirmed that Joshua was already very old, hence disqualified for the assignment. It would take the younger generation whom Joshua had groomed to continue where he stopped.
I would like to challenge you to maximize the strength you have now, while it lasts. You cannot be young forever. A time will come that your body will retire, even if don’t want to. It will tell you ‘please handle me with care’. Also, even if you are old there are great things you can do for God with your wisdom and life experiences before you die. Don’t die with untapped potentials, die empty. Let the testimony of Apostle Paul according to 2 Timothy 4:6 be yours as well. That you have been ‘poured out like a drink offering unto the Lord’. You need to pour out your life into others by exerting your strength on advancing the Kingdom of our God.
