Topic: VALUE OF GOOD UPBRINGING
Text: Ex. 2: 1 – 10
Memory Verse: “And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, because I drew him out of the water.”Ex.2: 10
Our text today tells us the story of how Moses was born and how by Divine intervention, he was given back to his own mother to raise. Moses was raised by his Hebrew parents and was turned over to Pharaoh’s daughter as her son. Moses definitely was taught about the Lord and how God would bring deliverance to the Israelites through him. Acts 7:25 tells us that Moses supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver Israel by his hand.
This shows that from childhood he was taught that the Lord is faithful, and that the Almighty sends deliverance to His people in their time of need. Although Moses was tempted to prematurely use the arm of flesh to bring about the deliverance of Israel; which had been in his heart from childhood, as taught him by his parents. The Lord, used that opportunity to send Moses, on the second phase of his training to the land of Midian, where he learned at the feet of Jethro, the priest of Midian.
The training he received, let him know that the time of the deliverance of Israel had come. After his sojourn in Midian, living as a shepherd, as opposed to being a prince in Pharoah’s palace, he learnt humility. He learnt this lesson well, to the extent that he would rather stay at the rear and not in the exalted position of deliverer. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Prov.22:6
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your Word. I pray that you forgive my shortcomings in the training of my children. I pray you help me to point them always in the way of the Lord with love in Jesus’ name. Amen
