Topic: PASSION FOR THE LORD
Text: 1Kings.19:9 – 18
Memory Verse: “And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”1Kings19:10.
The prophet Elijah was passionate for the things of the Lord, he pronounced that there shall be no rain in Israel except by his word (1Kings17:1) and it was so. After three and half years the Lord told him to go show himself to Ahab the king and that rain would come. He contended with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel and won the contest; with the Lord sending fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice. The zeal of the Lord upon him, led to him to slay the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal. The zeal or passion with which he handled the things of God was very high; this made the Lord to come dialogue with him at the mouth of the cave where he was hiding from Jezebel, the queen of Ahab, who had sworn that she would kill Elijah.
The Lord came to him in a still small voice after the wind, earthquake and fire had passed but the Lord was not in them. Elijah’s intimacy with God made him to know that the Lord was not in those things.
Are you sensitive to the voice of the Lord? Will you know if he was in the wind, fire or earthquake?
Elijah’s dialogue with the Lord made the Lord to reveal that he had seven thousand men who had not bowed to Baal. As we take the things of God seriously in our lives, God will reveal his mind to us and give us specific guidance like he gave to Elijah concerning Hazael, Jehu and Elisha.
Prayer:
I thank you Father for calling me to you. I pray that you forgive my reluctance to act on your instructions to me. Help me to always speak about you to others in Jesus’ name. Amen
