Topic: HONOURING GOD IN THANKSGIVING FOR SUPERNATURAL
DELIVERANCE
Text: DANIEL 3:19-30
Memory Verse: “Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to deliver in this way” Daniel 3: 29.
No Christian plans for any supernatural deliverance since nobody prays to be in a difficult situation that will warrant it. God moves in His mysterious way to supernaturally deliver people at His own time for His own glory. The three Hebrew young men were victims of man’s inhumanity to man. The pride of life of a “mighty” king Nebuchadnezzar and the pull down syndrome of some of his subjects was the cause of the problem that faced the young men. By the world’s standards, bowing down to the image, meant safety; if they did otherwise, they were dead. Nevertheless, the young men cast their lot for God irrespective of the consequences. However, dead or alive, they knew they were God’s (Hebrew 13: 6).
The young men were thrown into the fiery burning fire, hoping that, that was their end. However, God said no, and executed His plan of supernatural deliverance. The outcome of this supernatural deliverance caused king Nebuchadnezzar to honour God in thanksgiving for the faith of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. His pronouncement is our memory verse. Note that five things happened in this deliverance, namely; (1) they were loosed from their bonds v 25; (2) They were protected from harm v. 27; 3) They were comforted in trial vs. 24, 25, 28; (4) God was glorified v. 29 and (5) God rewarded them v.30.
Is anyone at the crossroad of life and you know not where to turn to? Be at peace, the God of miracle will deliver and direct you. He is faithful and will never abandon His own in any difficult situation. He is a miracle working God. W. Cowper writes in his hymn: God moves in a mysterious way:
“Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take!
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy, and will break
In blessings on your head.
Prayer: My dear Lord, in faith, I believe that the clouds I so much dread are big with mercy and you will pour your blessings upon me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
