NOVEMBER 14: “UNDERSTANDING THE DEPTH OF GOD’S LOVE”

Is it humanly possible for a normal man to understand the love of Christ for us? Is it possible to understand the depth and breadth of His love for us? How can someone decide to die for another friend? Even a husband for a wife, or vice versa? Can a father die for his son?

The answer, while it may not be absolute, is an emphatic No. However, Christ chose to die for us because of the love that He has for us. Scientists have described the deepest part of the ocean as a place called Marianna Trench.

They say the depth of the ocean in that place is mind-boggling. They claim it is about 7 miles down. The water pressure is 15,931 pounds per square inch. Yet there is life there. There are fishes and other living things there on the ocean floor and there is total darkness there. For most of us who have heard of this part of the sea, it is difficult to fathom just how deep the place is, but it is even much more difficult for us to comprehend the depth of God’s love for us His creation.

Paul found it difficult to describe, but he prayed that his readers would be able somehow to grasp “the width and length and depth and height of God’s love. To know the love of Christ which passes all understanding “Ephesians 3:18.

The reason we can never reach the depths of God’s love is that it is infinite beyond measure. If you are ever faced with any of life’s challenges, if you ever feel alone and unloved and you have sunk to the depth of dark despair, just think of Ephesians 3:18. God’s love for you is deeper than the deepest of Mariana Trench and whatever you are going through will soon pass because of the love of God for you. Beloved just be thankful for His love.

PRAYER: Father Lord, I pray this morning that you let the depth and width and height of your love be evident more and more in my life for your glory, Amen.
