Topic: WE ARE DEBTORS
Text: Roman 8:12(NKJV); Luke 7:41-43
Memory Verse: “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors…” – (Romans 8:12a).
The Psalmist in contemplation of the Lord’s doing in His life; asked – what shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits towards me? (Psalm 116:12). Dear Christian, you are a debtor to God to obey Him: body, soul and sprit and as such, take a moment like the Psalmist to ask yourself this same question.
You are a debtor to His salvation and redemption because He justified you freely from the condemnation of sin that the accuser brought against you (Rom 3:20-25). You are a debtor to His righteous justice because the soul that sins dies; but God in His forbearance grace and forgiving mercy sent His son to take your place whilst you were an enemy; deserving of death, thus reconciling you back to God (Rom 5:8-10).
Dear Christian, you are a debtor to His power. He not only preserved your spiritual life, He preserved your soul from death and your feet from falling. He pulled you out of the net the enemy had “secretly” laid for you (Psalm 31:5), making a spectacle of him and disarming principalities and powers, putting them to ridicule – all for your sake! (Colossian 2:14-15).
Finally, you are a debtor to His love: to be called His child (1 John 3:1-2); to be a joint heir, having all inheritance reserved in heaven for you (1 Peter 1:3-5; Gal 4:5-7).
What great debtors we all are. Seeing this, how can we ever repay Him for His faithfulness, except to come into His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise in thanksgiving, blessing His name (Psalm 100:4)
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I realize how much of a debtor I am to your grace, immutable and unchanging faithfulness to your covenant in dealing with me as your child, for which I will never be able to repay! From the depth of my heart, I say thank you dear Lord. Accept my token of thanksgiving through Jesus Christ my Lord.
