Topic: DO NOT FORGET A SINGLE BLESSING
Text: Psalm 103:1-22
Memory Verse: “O my soul, bless God, don’t forget a single blessing!” – Psalm 103:2 (The MSG).
John Antes, 1740-1811; wrote as he was inspired by Psalm 136, the words of this Hymn:
Let us with a gladsome mind
Praise the Lord for He is kind;
For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.
For consider deeply verses 17-20 of Psalm 136 and Deuteronomy 3:11, the victory over king Og of Bashan – a giant bigger and mightier than Goliath! King David knew by the spirit of God that the victory over these lands from Gilead to Bashan; hitherto the realm of king Og and shared by allotment to the Israelites could only be from and by God.
David will later, for posterity compose this feat into songs of thanksgiving to God (1Chron. 16: 7& 34; 2Chron. 7: 1-3), which had been, and are still being used today in worship. Dear Christian, it is an instruction needing introspection: Don’t forget a single Blessing! (MSG Bible).
Have you thought of the many near death and miraculous deliverances? Oh, the many revelations to you and grace upon grace! Have you thought of the plan of the enemy to kill, steal and destroy you? How many times you had been sick and human doctors gave very scary prognosis for which your soul sank; yet He, Jehovah-Rapha came forth with healing in His wings!
Have you forgotten His great mercy towards you, even when in sin, you offered profane fires – the type that brought instant death to priests like Nadab and Abihu, yet His mercy and grace prevented the wrath and consequences of your actions?
In response, let us worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness, bringing our gold of obedience and incense of lowliness; in trembling and fearfulness, bowing down before Him in adoration. Why? Because He is good and His mercies and faithfulness towards us are forever. Do not ever forget a single benefit!
Prayer: Dear Lord, my life does injustice to You each time I think that the mighty acts recorded in scriptures in the days of old have not been experienced by me as I lay in the depths and walked miry clay. Help me to review every single benefit I have received from You, so I can worship You in the beauty of Your Holiness.
