Topic: MANIPULATING DAVID
Text: II Samuel 12:1-13
Memory Verse: Proverbs 28:13 – He who covers his sins will not prosper but whosoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
It has been said often when you start with a small white lie, you have to cover it with another lie and another until it becomes a huge mess. David found himself in a mess after his sin of adultery with Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife. In trying to cover his fault by pinning the pregnancy on Uriah, he went deeper in sin. When his plan failed, he ordered that the commander of the army should ensure that Uriah does not make it back alive.
His problem started when he abandoned his responsibility of leading his people to war. When we are in the wrong place at the wrong time, we can set ourselves up for trouble. We need to be vigilant as children of God and not allow the devil to mess with our testimony. An idle hand is truly the devils’ workshop, may we not be a tool in the devil’s hands.
From adultery, his manipulation did not work and so he committed murder, from one sin to another, unlike Joseph who faced a similar temptation with the wife of Potiphar, but he chose to flee rather than succumb.
How far will a man go to cover his sin? Rather than come clean and commit no further wrong, David went all the way, allowing the devil a foothold in his life. Vs 27 of Chapter 11 says, “After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the Lord”.
Is God displeased with you today, please reflect on your path, is there anything you think you are covering up? God will uncover all sins and will always ensure it is exposed. No attempts David made to cover his sin worked. When the prophet confronted him with the truth, he confessed.
We cannot please God if we reject the ways of God. David suffered the consequences of his sin, but God still showed mercy. The bible says, “The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the Lord, the son born to you will die.”
God wants you to come as you are today and trust him to help you out of whatever mess you find yourself. We all know that God brought good out of this bad situation, Bathsheba was the mother of King Solomon and through her the lineage of Jesus. God will be glorified through our lives if we surrender to Him.
Prayer: Thank you, father, for today, thank you for your concern for my wellbeing. In any way that my actions are displeasing to you please, forgive me. I confess my sins before you have mercy on me. Help me not to allow the devil to find me as a vessel in his hands. Today, I receive power to resist the devil and his suggestions for my life. Help to flee from situations that can negatively impact my testimony. Help me to see all the, challenges that life brings my way through your eyes. Amen
