Topic: “UNSHAKEABLE LOVE”
Text: ISAIAH 54:1-10
Memory Verse: “For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed” – Isa 54:10.
The verse of emphasis in today’s text speaks of the nature of God’s love for us. God Himself described it as being more permanent than the mountains and the hills. This declaration must have been a huge encouragement to the people to whom Isaiah the Prophet was sent with this word.
The key word describing God’s love in this text is “Steadfast”. It means something resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering, something immovable, not subject to changing times or conditions. Using this word to describe His love for His people, God was simply showing how His love for them is as unchangeable as He is unchangeable. He does not give what does not fit His person, so the love He shows to His people can safely be described as an outpouring of His person to us who belong to Him.
Having prepared a number of couples for marriage through premarital counseling, I have heard how many young people describe their love for their would-be spouses, painting it in such superlative words that you almost could feel the emotions that run through them. However, I am amazed at how such soon fizzle away to give room to hatred, hostility and a complete depletion of the affection with which they started. Still, that is how unreliable the promise, the word and the love of man can be. Such love is conditional, and when the conditions change, the love also negatively changes or even disappears.
Thank God that the love of God is backed up with a covenant and sealed by the sacrifice of His one and only son Jesus Christ, making it unchangeable. This love saved you and you must dispense this same love as you go out today if you truly received it.
Prayer: Ask God to help you love unconditionally even as He has loved you.
