SEPTEMBER 14: “Showcasing the power of God through Service”

SEPTEMBER 14, 2024

Topic:  “Showcasing the power of God through Service

Text: Ephesians 4:11-13, Romans 12:3-11

Memory Verse: Romans 1:25 – “God’s wrath is being revealed from heaven against those who have exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worship and serve the creature rather than the creator”.

What does it mean to serve? To work, to be of assistance to others or to minister.

In response to our calling as children of God, we are called to service. We each represent a part of the whole body of Christ and have been equipped to serve as part of the body of Christ.

Our service is similar to offering sacrifice to God. We are his workmanship who are in Christ Jesus to do his will. From creation, God made all things including humans for his honor and glory. All his creation is made to serve him, and thereafter, the only way to be fulfilled is to conform to God’s expectation for our lives.

God expects us to serve him with our talents with the caution to apply it according to the mission each of us is given. God also expects us to serve with a joyful hearts. God knows the intent of our hearts and when we serve grudgingly, the service is not acceptable. We must serve with an attitude of humility as nothing we do can earn us our salvation. We are saved only by grace, so we would not serve God with a wrong motive just because of the reward or promised blessings.

We should serve God in spirit and in truth. Our service should not be to serve man, which is equal to idol worship; we should avoid service to please man. We cannot define the terms of our service to God as is done in a secular job, contract of service for a defined period or contract of employment subject to termination by either the employer or employee. God expects us to serve him faithfully to the end.

As long as the breath of God is in you and I, we should serve him. Service without love is drudgery and may lead to resentment and pride. Today, commit to experiencing the power that comes from selfless service to God.

PRAYER: Lord, let my life be a living sacrifice unto you and help me to serve you whole-heartedly, without holding back. I have been created to serve and grace to obey father Lord, give unto me, in Jesus name, Amen.
