SEPTEMBER 20: HIS LORDSHIP

September 20, 2023

Topic: HIS LORDSHIP

Text: Genesis 15: 1-7

Memory Verse: “And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it” Gen 15:7

God introduced Himself to Abram as “I am the Lord”. Abram, as he was then called before he became Abraham, had a unique privilege of being reassured that the God he was dealing with is the Lord Himself. The implication of this was to reveal God as Master, one deserving of issuing commands, and making promises that are capable of redefining destinies, altering positions, and making possible every seeming impossibility. Remember that God had hitherto given him specific instruction to leave his ancestral dwelling place of Ur to go to an unknown destination, but the Master knew it very well.

At the point of salvation, we enjoy God’s saving grace by faith in His finished work on the cross. Beyond Him being our Saviour, God must become the Lord and Master of our lives. This is the critical mass in our Christian walk as beneficiaries of His abundant grace. We cannot afford to have Him as Saviour but not as Lord. And for Him to be our Lord, we must be willing to follow Him completely, in every way He may want us to go. Our Will must equally be lost in His own; and like John the Baptist declared: “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).

It is easier to answer to the question of you being born again than to answer to whether Jesus Christ is the Master over your life. When the Father of Lights beams His searchlight upon you, will he find in you a fully yielded heart or one that is compartmentalized? Jesus declared in Luke 6:46, “But why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’, and do not the things I say?” and in Matt 15:8 “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me”. The true test of Him being our Master is in the place of obedience.
Beloved, if you have enjoyed His saving grace, where is your heart right now?

Prayer: Oh Lord, my God, I humbly submit my life once again to you. Have your way, and cause your Will to be done in my life, in Jesus name, amen.
