SEPTEMBER 23: “THE DISCIPLINE OF A RENEWED MIND”

DATE: Wednesday 23  September  2026

TOPIC:  “THE DISCIPLINE OF A RENEWED MIND”

TEXT: Romans 12:1–2

MEMORY VERSE:  “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will” – Romans 12:2 (NIV).

This passage carries a weight that is easy to overlook. It speaks about the renewing of the mind and that word “renewing” is not passive, it is a present continuous tense.

A present continuous tense refers to an action that is still ongoing, something that is happening now and must keep happening. It does not stop. It is active, consistent and intentional.

This means renewing your mind is not a one-time event. It is a daily, moment-by-moment responsibility. If you leave your mind unattended, something else will take over. The enemy does not wait for permission; he fills empty spaces. If you are not renewing your mind, something else is shaping it for you.

This is why renewal must be intentional and continuous, then comes the result. Scripture says, “then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is.” That “then” is important. It shows outcome. It means that the ability to discern God’s will comes after transformation and transformation comes through consistent renewal.

When your mind is aligned with God’s Word, clarity follows. You begin to recognize truth. You hear God more clearly. You walk with direction and confidence.

So, if you ever find yourself confused about God’s will, do not panic. Go back to the foundation. Renew your mind.

How? Through the Word of God and through prayer. The Word especially, is your standard for truth. If something does not align with it, then it is not the direction you should follow. God’s desire is that we walk in His good, pleasing and perfect will, not occasionally, but consistently.

PRAYER: Lord open my eyes to recognize the patterns of this world, help me act in ways that strengthens the renewal and transformation of my mind, Amen.
