Topic: Redemption Calms Our Fears

Text: Mark 6:45-52, 2Timothy 1:7
Memory Verse: “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” – 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is something almost all of us will battle with at one time or the other in our lifetime. It paralyses one from truly living and moving forward. Fear is the absence of faith and it comes each time we turn our gaze away from God and stare at the problem.

Today’s first Bible passage highlights Jesus after feeding the 5,000. He sent them away and He went to a mountain to pray while His disciples went in a boat to the other side. There was a storm on the sea, Jesus saw them but was very calm because He had connected to the Father in heaven who is above all storms. The disciples were sore afraid because the only thing they saw was the troubled water, they could not even remember the just concluded miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 men. In verse 52 of Mark 6, “For they considered not the miracle of the loaves for their hearts were hardened.” These were disciples who had been with Jesus for a while.

Beloved, a redeemed soul has an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and this casts away fear because fear is not from God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Such a believer draws strength from God every day to overcome the spirit of fear.

PRAYER: Dear Father, teach me to continually set my gaze on you and not see the troubled water in Jesus’ name.
