Topic:  “THE ABSENCE OF BLESSINGS”

Text: Genesis 27:38-40 NKJV

Memory Verse: Genesis 27:38 “And Esau said to his father, “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me—me also, O my father!” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

Esau was privileged to have come as the firstborn from the loins of his father, by divine providence. He was even loved by his father, which would have been an advantage to him. However, he was very careless and carefree about the blessing of God upon Him. The records show that even when he lost the blessing, he was not aware, or he simply did not care. For him, as long as he went to the bush and found meat, he was okay, even God didn’t matter to him. He was a godless man.

As the first born, he had straight access to the blessings though his birthright. However, due to godlessness, he sold it for a plate of food. The twin brother took advantage of this and swindled him. The day the dad was to bless him; he went out to the bush to get meat as usual. Jacob, led by his mother, prepared the same meal within the compound without stepping out! So, he manipulated the father and emptied Isaac of all the blessings, though, by deception.

Esau came in just after the last drop of Blessing left Isaac to Jacob and pleaded for the residue of His blessings. Isaac shook violently as he had nothing left. Esau pleaded and wept, but there was no more. So, the ‘jar’ of blessing had been emptied! What was left? Imagine all that the father said thereafter! Only a curse was left! The Absence of His blessings is the presence of curses!

Watch out! Only the blessing of the Lord maketh rich… Where you cannot see God’s blessings, there will be curses! By our new birth through salvation, we have access to the blessings from the blossom of the Father, but outside that, we will only receive curses! We must hold this truth dear to our hearts.

PRAYER: Dear Saviour, I am delighted to realize how blessed I am in Christ Jesus! As You help me, I refuse to make a mess of it, misuse it, mix it up or miss it. This I claim by the grace I have received in Christ Jesus, Amen.
