Topic:  “THE POWER OF GOD’S LOVE – DEFENCE”

Text: Romans 8: 31-39

Memory Verse: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isa 41:10.

The power of God’s love is overwhelming. It is immeasurable and unfathomable. Apostle Paul explained how the love of God is demonstrated in various ways in the scriptural passage for today.  The potential of God’s love is also seen in today’s text. We shall attempt to unpack some of these.

First, the power of his love is defending: Romans 8:31 says, ‘What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?’ This question posed by apostle Paul is a question which rests on an assurance and confidence in the defending nature of God. This question suggests a determination from God to cover his own through His abiding presence. (Isa. 41:10) This covering is impregnable and ever secure against any potential assault of the enemy.

God will do anything to defend anyone who is on His side and secure them from the harassment of the enemy. He is an Ever-Caring Father who will leave no stone unturned in preserving any one whom he loves. The question suggests that anyone whom God loves has nothing or no one to fear. Prophet Jeremiah says, “But the Lord is with me like a mighty warrior; so, my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor will never be forgotten.” Jer. 20:11.

Anyone who has the Lord with him is fortunate and well covered. There is no need to worry or be afraid. The Love of God is an insurance against the enemy’s attacks. We need to trust His protection like the psalmist says, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Ps 91:1-2.

God wants us to trust him and when we do, that will be enough. This is because the insurance policy of His love covers all damages and secures from all harm. We shall continue to look at the second way God’s love is demonstrated tomorrow.

PRAYER: Father, thank for the covering against all dangers through love.  I take refuge in your love today in Jesus’ name, Amen.
