Topic:  “OUTCOMES OF INTIMACY IN THE CHURCH – FORGIVENESS 1“

Text: Matthew 18:20-34

Memory Verse: Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

Forgiveness, in general terms, means releasing resentment, anger, or the desire for revenge toward someone, while forgiveness in the scriptures means releasing someone from punishment or blame for a wrong, they have done, and it also involves letting go of any resentment or anger toward them. It is about treating them as if the offence never happened, not as a condoning of their actions, but a release of our anger and desire for revenge.

It allows for deeper connections and healing, ultimately leading to more fulfilling relationships within the Church, and moves us past hurts and resentments, promoting a sense of acceptance and belonging. If the outcome of intimacy is to be evident in the Church, forgiving others is seen as a path to a deeper spiritual connection with God because it enables us to mirror God’s mercy, grace and to strengthen our faith, which fosters a closer relationship with Him.

It is worth noting that forgiveness can also lead to significant mental and emotional benefits because it can reduce stress, anxiety, and hostility, as well as promote emotional well-being; repair damaged relationships, build trust, and healing. Furthermore, forgiveness encourages communication, empathy, and understanding between members of the Church, leading to stronger bonds. Ephesians 4:26-27 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” Let us not give room to the devil in our midst due to unforgiveness.

PRAYER: Dear Merciful Lord, thank you for your gift of forgiveness, help me to demonstrate the unconditional love of forgiveness towards other people in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
