Topic:  “OUTCOMES OF INTIMACY IN THE CHURCH – FORGIVENESS 2“

Text: Matthew 6:12-15

Memory Verse: Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13

In continuation of the previous chapter, forgiveness as an outcome of intimacy in the Church when practiced, encourages a sense of unity and support within the Church. It allows us to be vulnerable and seek help without fear of judgment, creating a safe and supportive environment.

Furthermore, forgiveness is presented as a path to peace, healing and freedom from bitterness. It is not just an action towards others, but also a way to release burdens and find inner peace. It can also be said to be a deliberate decision to let go of negative emotions and feelings. Biblically, God forgives our sins and He calls for believers to extend the same grace to others. The former President of South Africa, the late President Nelson Mandela, famously emphasized the power of forgiveness, stating, “Forgiveness liberates the soul, it removes fear.”

The power of forgiveness to bring about unity has a major impact on our walk and holiness before God, our being in the right relationship with each other and our fruitfulness and effectiveness in ministering the gospel in power.

Studies have found that the act of forgiveness can reap huge rewards for our health, lowering the risk of heart attack, improving cholesterol levels and sleep, and reducing pain, blood pressure, levels depression, and stress.

Is there anyone you have not forgiven? Consider forgiving the person today so that the Church will enjoy the free flow of God’s manifold blessings, which is part of the outcome of intimacy in the Church.

PRAYER: Dear Father, I embrace forgiveness so that I may see the powerful effects of it in my life and within the lives of other believers in Jesus’ name, Amen.
