RISKING OUR LIVES TO PROTECT THE BRETHREN

David was a shepherd boy who stuck out his life for ordinary animals by fighting and killing the bear and lion when they came to attack his father’s flock of animals. During this time of his life, he was in fellowship with the Lord. He wrote the Psalms that we are aware of today.

David was bold to face Goliath at the battle front. His senior brothers chided him for being forward, others disdained him for lack of experience in wars. Defeat was already staring the army of Israel in the face for forty days; all his seniors, fathers were hiding in caves and holes as Goliath challenged them. David, a teenager, showed his confidence and courage in the face of seemingly insurmountable opponent

His boldness brought about victory for the entire army of Israel and deliverance for the state of Israel immediately and for years to come, Israel had peace because of one man’s boldness to stand against the enemy; it was a risk. This boldness came from fellowship with the Lord – Psalm 119:164 and his experience in killing the bear and the lion – I Sam 17:34-36. These were tests the protection of animals had prepared him for, to battle men. He passed the tests then and was able to use them as testimonies of the power of God to deliver. Most biblical scholars agree that David was 17 years of age when these events took place. He was faithful in little – protecting the lives of sheep, God promoted him to take responsibility for humans

When we face tests and trials of life and we overcome or succeed during these times they might be preparing us for greater tasks in the future on a greater platform.

A teenager paid the price to save the armies of Israel, a feat that people who were much older than him, even as old as his father could not attempt. We should allow the younger generation to demonstrate their God given talents and not deter them.

PRAYER: Pray for boldness to take risks for the kingdom of God
