TOPIC: “LET GO AND LET GOD”
TEXT: Luke 9:23-26
MEMORY VERSE: “ And he said to them all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” – Luke 9:23 (ESV).
To walk in alignment with God demands following Him steadfastly without looking back. Jesus said to all, that whoever must follow Him, must deny himself, that is, let go of himself, status, and achievements, carry his cross daily and follow Him. You must cease to exist for yourself and be ready to lose your life for the sake of Christ. The truth of the matter is that if you let go of your life, that is, you get to a point that your life does not matter to you anymore, you will gain it when you walk in alignment with His will daily.
In other words, Jesus is saying that if you want to walk in alignment with him, the first thing that must be dealt with is yourself, that is until you let go of yourself, you cannot let God in because it will profit you nothing to gain the world and lose your soul. It is when you lose your life for the sake of following Jesus that you can actually gain it.
Therefore, walking in alignment starts with first denying yourself, that is letting go of yourself. Then you can take up your cross daily and follow him. The cross is the place of death and if you are still holding tenaciously to self, you cannot die to self. Nothing matters anymore to a dead man. There is nothing good or negative that you do to him that moves him. A dead man does not respond to accolades, negative vibes, nor does he seek to impress anybody and cannot be impressed to do anything contrary to his relationship with Christ. Self must die before Christ can take His rightful place in your life and if Christ does not take His place, you cannot walk in alignment with Him because there will be friction along the way.
PRAYER: Father, let Christ be at the centre of my life every day, give me the grace to endure to the end in Jesus’ name, Amen.
