TOPIC: “DO NOT LOOSE FOCUS”
TEXT: John 21:19-22
MEMORY VERSE: “jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!” – John 21:22 (ESV).
As human beings, we have the tendency to be distracted by many things that are capable of taking us away from God’s presence. One of the things that distracts us is comparison. When we begin to compare ourselves with ourselves. Apostle Paul in 2Corinthians 10:12 expresses his disapproval of Christians comparing themselves and refers to it as foolishness. We are all unique and we possess unique characteristics and giftings. God’s dealings with individuals differ according to God’s specification and calling.
Jesus had told Peter what was going to become of him and the assignment He had saddled him with, yet he was still asking what about John. The response of Jesus shows that He was passing a salient message to Peter that will help him later in life and ministry, that he must avoid comparison or competition in life. He also made him to understand that He is the one that will determine whatever anyone would do or be for him and that Peter should rather focus on his call and how he will follow Jesus such that he would align his will to the master’s.
In the Christian race, there is no fastest runner or the best runner, everyone wins a prize as long as you run according to rules and the master’s specifications. That is why Jesus said the first shall be the last and the last shall be the first. Brother, Sister, concentrate on your race and assignment so that you will walk in alignment with God. Leave others to walk the path God has earmarked for them.
PRAYER: I will never lose my focus; I will continue to walk in alignment with your will for my life in Jesus’ name, Amen.
