TOPIC: “FALSE PROPHETS SPREADING FEAR”
TEXT: Nehemiah 6:9-14
MEMORY VERSE: “And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.” Nehemiah 6:12
One of the most potent weapons of Satan against saints is fear. Sanballat had tried many tricks and tactics to intimidate Nehemiah and his team of Kingdom builders and he had failed. He now hired some fake prophets to create fear of their being assassinated. They wanted him to go and hide in the temple, to demoralize his co-workers. He would also be a sitting duck in the so called hideout. Nehemiah defeated Satan here again, he said, “Should such a man as I flee? and who is there that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.”
God says resist the devil and he will flee from you, but your flesh and the demons are screaming, telling you flee, flee, flee.
The Holy Spirit revealed to Nehemiah that the prophets were hired to lie. ‘And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.’ It’s really tragic when religious people allow the devil use them against God’s agenda.
Nehemiah got it right, “Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid and do so and sin and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.” Fear is sin, it is a vote of no confidence in God’s capacity to save to the utmost. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
PRAYER: Lord, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for you are always with me to the end of the earth. Thank you Lord, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
