TOPIC: “THE POWER OF INFLUENCE”
TEXT: Matthew 5:14-16
MEMORY VERSE: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden” – Matthew 5:14 NIV.
Where power commands, influence directs.
A president may have power over a nation, but a street-side journalist can shape the ideologies of the people. Influence is the communal value a person carries—it does not have to be tangible. It is the desire to be needed and wanted by a community or people.
In one way or another, we all crave acceptance. We want to speak and be heard, to matter in a space, to feel like our voice carries weight. A place where no other voice can easily counter yours.
Influence shows up everywhere. Pastors influence their congregation. Musicians influence their audience. Footballers influence their fans. Even a painting can influence people long after the artist is gone.
This desire is not accidental—God placed it in the heart of man.
The Bible says you are the light of the world, the salt of the earth, a city set upon a hill that cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14-16). Your presence is meant to influence the people around you. That is a God-given design.
However, as in every other good thing, the enemy has corrupted it. Where did this corruption come in? We will discuss tomorrow.
PRAYER: Father, may the light of Christ in me keep on burning, let it not be hidden. I will continue to burn higher and brighter, Amen
