Topic: CHRONICLES OF MEN THAT FELL FROM GRACE: JUDAS ISCARIOT
Text: Matthew 26:1-3, 14-16,47-50; Acts 1:16-19
Memory Verse: Acts 1:16 – “Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus”.
What a very great opportunity and privilege it was for the twelve disciples who made the choice of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry. It is evident from the scriptures that the choice of these disciples was not based on merit but grace. What a great grace it is to be one of the twelve! It is however unfortunate that one of them, Judas Iscariot fell from this pinnacle of grace.
The life of Judas Iscariot is a chronicle of caution and challenge to us as contemporary disciples. He made himself available to the devil and devil succeeded in dethroning him from the seat of grace among the Disciples. His greed for money and quest for materialism made him betray the Lord Jesus Christ and thereby, he became the greatest looser. He lost his peace, comfort, joy and ultimately his place in the New Jerusalem. What a colossal loss of divine heritage!
Friend, the life of Judas Iscariot is a remarkable challenge to us as believers at a time like this when many are trading away their faith in exchange for materialism.
Check your desires. I Hope you have not begun to stray away from the Lord because of your selfish pursuit. You need to retrace your steps back to God. Run back to Him and plead for mercy, He is a merciful God.
Commitment: Resolve to make God your sole priority in this life.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, have mercy on me; forgive me all my wrongdoings. I promise to make you my number one in all I do, help me, Lord Jesus, Amen.
