Topic: “OVERCOMING SIN: THE POWER OF SALVATION”
Text: Romans 6:1-8
Memory Verse: “For he who has died has been freed from sin” Rom 6:7.
At the centre of the Christian life is living a victorious life over sin. Daily, we wrestle with temptations. Sometimes we stumble and fall, trapped in cycles of sin. But the good news is that there is a power that breaks the chains of sin and sets free. That Power is the power of salvation. Salvation is the deliverance from sin and its eternal consequences. It was brought to us by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who paid his life as a ransom for our sins and freed us from the tyranny of sin.
In our text for today, Apostle Paul explained that believers in Christ are dead to sin. Our old and sinful nature has been crucified on the cross and buried with Christ. Therefore, as Christ was raised from the dead, even so, we have been raised into a new life of Christlikeness. It is this new nature, empowered with the Holy Spirit who teaches us daily to say no to sin. For this reason, we are no longer slaves to the dictates of the sinful nature. The Bible says“sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law but under Grace”. (Romans 6:14). The grace of salvation which Christ brought delivers us from the law of sin and iniquity.
Beloved, have you experienced this power of salvation, or are you still struggling under the bondage and yoke of sin? Is your life full of defeat and frustration? Are you living a life void of inner peace, joy and rest? Permit me to encourage you this morning to surrender your life to Jesus and experience deliverance from the power of sin. Pray this prayer.
PRAYER: Father, I thank you for the provision of salvation which you made available in Christ Jesus. I believe you did all these because of me. I surrender my life to you today. Come into my life and give me your new life in Jesus’ name, Amen.
